Being a co-signer on a personal loan for a friend or family member is very generous since it will very likely make it possible for them to qualify for such a loan. However, the decision of being a co-signer for a personal loan should not be made lightly. It is your responsibility as a potential co-signers to educate yourself about how this situation affects you, especially with regard to your responsibility to the loan should the borrower default.
